SUMMARY:Complementary Medicines
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that approximately 2 out of every 3 Australians takes complementary medicines (CMs) regularly? Most people make their decision to try CMs based on the potential benefits, but often don’t think of their potential risks. Like any drug, however, CMs do have risks – they range from side-effects and interactions with other drugs, to false hope and the delay of evidence-based treatments. But it can be difficult to find all the information you need to make an informed choice about the risks and benefits of many CMs.\nIn this webinar, Geraldine will discuss where and how to find this information from readily available sources, so you can weigh up the potential benefits and the potential risks for CMs and decide if a CM is right for you.\nOur presenter: Dr Geraldine Moses is a clinical pharmacist specialised in Medicines Information. She works part-time at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane and for the Australian Dental Association providing the national drug information and advisory called Pharma-Advice. In addition, she also holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor in the Schools of Pharmacy at the University of Queensland and QUT. She also consults to the Department of Veterans Affairs, NPS MedicineWise and the New Zealand Dental Association.\nGeraldine has won several awards for her work, including Australian Pharmacist of the Year in 2002, ADAQ Medal of Merit in 2013, in May 2019 was recognised in the Australia Day awards as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to medicine and the community as a pharmacist, through her advisory and educational roles.\nAsk A Question:\nDr Moses would be happy for you to submit questions on the topic up to a week before the live webinar event. The questions will assist her in preparing her presentation so that it meets the needs of the audience. Please email your question to programs@msk.org.au ( mailto:programs@msk.org.au )\nHave you checked out our series before? \nWe have a huge list of interesting webinars from 2020 and 2021 with links to the FREE recordings!
