Musculoskeletal Health Awareness Month
Musculoskeletal Health Awareness Month
What is Musculoskeletal Health Awareness Month (MHAM)?
MHAM runs from 1 October to 31 October and aims to:
- Focus on musculoskeletal health and well-being
- Shine a light on the invisible epidemic that is musculoskeletal disease
- Embrace activities that get and keep us moving
- Build understanding about the challenges of living with musculoskeletal disease and how we can support people with these conditions
Why is MHAM important?
- 7.3 million Australians (that’s 1 in 3 people) live with one or more musculoskeletal conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, back pain, gout and fibromyalgia
- These often invisible conditions have far-reaching impacts across all aspects of people’s lives: financially, socially, professionally and in personal relationships
- More support and awareness is needed to make this a national health priority and create lasting positive change
