Consumer Advisory Committee

Consumer Advisory Committee

At Musculoskeletal Australia we believe in a person-centred, self-directed approach. We see consumers as being in the driver’s seat when it comes to their health, and the rest of us – organisations such as MSK, healthcare professionals, researchers – we’re just along for the ride. We can help consumers navigate their journey, but at the end of the day, it’s the consumer who’ll steer their health towards their own specific goals.

In 2018 we formed the Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) to ensure our organisation was doing all we could to support consumers in meeting their goals.

The CAC consists of committed volunteers living with a range of different musculoskeletal conditions, from all walks of life. They advise our Board and Management on the strategic direction and planning of the organisation. Read theCAC Terms of Reference for further details

CAC Inaugural Chair Annie McPherson said: “It’s so important that people living with musculoskeletal conditions are heard and their experiences and perspectives are integrated into services, programs and advocacy”.

CEO Rob Anderson: “Musculoskeletal conditions can have a profound effect on people’s lives – living with persistent pain, working, studying, socialising, being in a relationship, having a family – it’s complex and goes way beyond just having a physical condition. MSK want to ensure that everything we do represents the needs and experiences of people living with these conditions and we see the CAC as a vital group that helps us stay true to our vision”.

Become a member of the Consumer Advisory Committee

MSK is seeking new CAC members from any state or territory of Australia, but most particularly from South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia. If you have a musculoskeletal condition/s or care for someone with these conditions, we’d like to hear from you!

To be a member of the CAC, you need to be at least 18 years of age and be passionate about helping shape the future of healthcare for others. You also need to be able to provide a consumer perspective that incorporates your own experience as well as that of others and be willing to regularly attend the CAC meetings (which are held online).

If you’re interested in applying to become a member of the CAC, please read the CAC Terms of Reference above and the position description.

Please submit your application using the official MSK CAC form. There is no specific due date for your application, as MSK is always keen to hear from consumers, who are interested in potentially becoming members of the MSK CAC.

We look forward to hearing from you!
