The Impact on Intimacy

Chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain, fibromyalgia and inflammatory arthritis can have wide-ranging impacts on a person’s health and daily functioning. These can include impacts on sexual function and intimate relationships. Yet while sexual function is an important part of life, it’s an understandably sensitive topic that consumers and clinicians alike may be hesitant to discuss. This webinar seeks to raise awareness of how painful musculoskeletal conditions can impact on sexual function and will highlight the available support and management options.

Our presenters: Professor Ilana Ackerman is a musculoskeletal epidemiologist in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University and an experienced orthopaedic physiotherapist. Her research program aims to understand the personal and societal impacts of osteoarthritis and the best ways of measuring the outcomes of osteoarthritis care. Ilana is an osteoarthritis expert for the Global Burden of Disease Study and she has been involved in the development of models of care and clinical care standards for osteoarthritis.

Ms Laura Worthing is a Senior Physiotherapist with the Central Coast Local Health District and has worked in Women’s, Men’s & Pelvic Health in both the public and private sectors, including the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.
